MADRID Isabella

Buena, Bonita, y Barata

Colombie

2025

“As a Colombian, I grew up with very specific expectations as to the kind of woman I was supposed to be (…). Growing up in Colombia made me have views of my body beyond my control and be conscious of the glorification and sexualisation of Colombian women’s bodies, both by local and foreign men.” —IM

In this project, Isabella Madrid reverses the codes that were imposed on her and immerses herself in the various symbols of Colombian women representation. She focuses on reclaiming and appropriating symbols, wounds that she subverts and redefines as a way of resisting them.
