MADRID Isabella

Buena, Bonita, y Barata

Colombia / Spain

2025

As a Colombian, Isabella Madrid grew up under the weight of very specific societal expectations as to what kind of woman she should be. In particular, she sheds light on the perception of female bodies, their glorification and sexualization by both local and foreign men.

Through her work and this Buena, Bonita y Barata series, she reappropriates Colombian feminine symbols, transforming the wounds of the past into a source of inspiration and emancipation. Playing the role of muse, model, photographer and director all at once, she seizes on all these stereotyped codes to subvert and deconstruct them, claiming the right to self-determination.
