In the presence of the artists
—
As part of the Lithuanian focus, Circulation(s) offers you a multi-faceted program to discover the vitality of Lithuanian creation. From photography to music, the opening weekend will be dedicated to discovering the young artists of this territory.
- Books signings (3pm-5pm · Atelier 5)
Take advantage of the artists’ presence to leave with a signed copy of their books related to the exhibited series or previous works.
- Pop-up bookshop (2pm-7pm · Atelier 5)
Discover the Lithuanian photography scene through its publishing creations. Six Chair Books (Vilnius) will be at CENTQUATRE-PARIS for the opening day, with a selection of books by Lithuanian artists.
- Music performance (2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. · Atelier 2)
Can darkness be embraced? Dive into the sonic depths of the theremin! Artist Aleksandra Przybysz comes to enchant us with vibrations from elsewhere
Somewhere between technology and the organic, this instrument governed by electromagnetic fields produces sounds in perpetual transformation, with no clear boundaries, whose vibrations mingle with the environment. It unfurls like a fluid in motion, offering a sonic experience that eludes the human, exploring a new, post-anthropocentric sound aesthetic that is not limited to the human world alone: it can imitate radio signals, seismic waves, atmospheric noise, the sounds of the deep sea, or even the sonar of bats.
An intense sensory journey to immerse you deeply in the In Praise of Shadows series from Tomasz Kawecki.
- Text reading (3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. · Atelier 2)
Give in to your anger! Facing their Minuit brûle series, artist Cendre performs a reading that brings her prints to life.
Queer anger is a fire that both consumes and enlightens. Starting with an autobiographical text recounting a homophobic attack and how anger helped us survive, the reading continues with an excerpt from the Queer Nation Manifesto, written in 1990 by a radical collective that grew out of ACT UP. More than 30 years on, these words still resonate, reminding us that we need to fight back and remember. From amazement to anger, this reading is an invitation to think of queer memory as a space for struggle, transmission and transformation.
- DJ set · with Radio Vilnius (4:00-4:30 p.m. and 6:00-6:30 p.m. · Atelier 7)
Discover the Lithuanian art scene through its musical creations. Radio Vilnius will set the sound mood throughout the day, followed by 2 DJ sets to get us dancing and close the vernissage (Liudmila and Visvaldas Morkevičius).
- Conference · La fabrique de la vérité (The truth factory) : Science and image in the age of AI
15:30-17:00: Image decoding session. This deciphering session highlights six images from a variety of fields, deciphered in a short, captivating presentation by a leading CEA scientist. An opportunity to go behind the scenes of scientific projects and discover major advances in imaging, mapping and more.
5.30pm-7pm: A round table discussion on the links between artificial intelligence and misinformation. As AI transforms art, media and research, it also raises questions about the veracity of content and the ethical issues involved.
Speakers: Amélie Samson, general coordinator of the Circulation(s) festival / collectif Fetart, Adrian Popescu, engineer at CEA, specializing in image analysis and artificial intelligence, Vincent Bontems, philosopher of science at CEA, specializing in the understanding and impact of new technologies, artificial intelligence and ethical issues, and Anatole Chouard, science popularizer and content creator. Moderated by Victor Dekyvère, freelance journalist.
Conferences are conducted in French.
