GODEK Natalia

Rebels

Poland

2024

These images bear witness to the determination, strength and energy shown by climate activists at demonstrations. Years of petitions, marches and open letters have not produced sufficient results as deeply rooted political and economic interests have stood in the way of change.

We’ve had enough. We have no more time to lose.

The photographer’s and activists’ approach is therefore one of rebellion and non-violent civil disobedience. They mobilise the public and draw the authorities’ attention to impose systemic change. During the events, Natalia Godek creates a life-size group portrait of the demonstrators. She exhibits materials coated with a light-sensitive emulsion, on which the activists are directly placed. These cyanotypes are therefore also a testament to hope – hope for change, hope for a better world and hope for life.

The time to act is now.

About the artist

Natalia Godek was born in 1998 in Poland. Documentary photography is the starting point for her work. She combines it with creative elements and visual forms. She is inspired by human beings and their relationship with nature, and by our way of caring for it, which, particularly today, is also expressed in many forms of rebellion.
