Discover Forgotten in the Dark‘s serie of  Tom Kleinberg

From Saturday April 6 to Saturday June 1st, 2024

Opening of the exhibition and visit in the presence of the artist on Saturday April 6 at 5 p.m.

Forgotten in the Dark explores the world of ballrooms, as a metaphor for queer individuals made invisible. Like nocturnal creatures, these shadows lost in the darkness are silenced and marginalised by daytime social norms. The ballroom movement, created by and for racialised LGBTQ+ people from black and Latino communities, has its origins in the dance competitions and fashion shows, known as “balls” that emerged in the 1960s in Harlem, New York.

Through a film and photographic series, Tom Kleinberg breaks through this oppressive darkness by documenting the spaces experienced by queer people in the ballroom communities of Seoul and Paris. He gives them a platform to express their truths through dance, giving them a powerful voice by making them visible to the world.
