Young Romanian Photography : Context, State of Play, and Perspectives
Guest speakers: Iosif Király, professor and co-founder of Department of Photography and Media Art at the National University of Arts of Bucharest, and Ioana Cîrlig, Photographer et Cofounder of the Romanian Center for Documentary Photography
Romanian art photography really emerged in the 1970s. However, it was especially since the fall of the Caucescu regime in 1989 that its weight and legitimacy grew. Photography and video departments were then established in the country’s leading art universities. Today, in what is now democratic context, however punctuated with various political and social crises, what are the stakes and the perspectives of this photographic scene?
