Photo archives: an area of artistic creation
Guest speakers : Michel Poivert, photo historian and professor at Paris I University, and photographers Hélène Bellenger, Prune Phi, and Stéphanie Solinas
While photography is the intrinsic artistic medium of immediacy, it is also an important method of recording history. Confrontation of social phenomena and genealogical questions are all avenues offered by the use of archives that raise questions about the role of our memory of history. Artists strive to cast a contemporary light on these traces of the past, allowing them to reinterpret them.
