Anxiety, annihilation, loneliness, alertness, flashbacks, disarray and disillusion are just a few of the many physical and psychological consequences of life after rape or sexual assault. Nous sommes légitimes [We are legitimate] is a multimedia installation of a political and militant nature that deals with the spectre of sexual violence, with the aim of talking about the aftermath. Because, no, this is not simply about “a woman who starts to reject all the men”. The symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder that victims of sexual assaults suffer from are manifold and unique to each of them, characterised by intense, unpleasant and dysfunctional reactions. Aubane Filée’s videos make immersive pictures that show scenes where (wo)men, objects and places illustrate various psychological stages that the victims, whose voices are often ignored, go through.

About the artist
Born in 2001 in Liege, Aubane Filée is a young Belgian artist who obtained a Bachelor’s degree in photography in 2022 from the ESA Saint-Luc. She is currently studying film production at the Insas in Brussels. Through a multidisciplinary practice, she focuses on political and dream-like work, choosing her media according to her project’s subject.
