BOURBON Jules

Capsules / Portraits #44

France

2024

Jules Bourbon’s “capsules” immerse us into a literary and visual experimentation with the mundane and the ordinary, the vulgar and the commonplace. These self-fictions, conceived as isolated objects, explore the sensitive state of the “where nothing happens”.

Writing is the backbone of Jules Bourbon’s work. It springs forth in snatches, is fragmented, then condensed as notes on his phone before becoming a narrative. It combines with filmed images to take the form of short videos centred on trivial moments, sometimes portraits, and most of the time places of passage and flow.

At the core of the work are small details of events, often perceived as insignificant. Brought together, they form the threads of a narrative to be invested, echoing each other and awakening memories and the imagination.
