Lebanon

2025

“This photo-film is the restitution of a work started in 2020, when I left Lebanon. At the time, I was documenting my confined relationship with my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whom I left due to the country’s situation. This matriarchy has a strong bond: food. In 2022-23, I called on Lebanese in Paris, asking them to make me an inherited recipe. I was received in their intimate spaces to talk about this bond with food. If the recipe came from the person’s mother, I met her so she could cook the same dish for me and tell me her version of the story. The mothers and grandmothers were sometimes in France, sometimes in Lebanon. The cooking was the bridge across the distance.” — SB
