Fiona Struengmann worked on 7000 photographs that had been collected by a German woman over more than fifty years. While going through archive images, the artist felt related and established a connection with the pictures that she now calls “silent memories”. This was the birth of her interest for vernacular photographs, for reconstitution, and for experimental techniques that are used to isolate elements in an image. From all this, she creates a new take on past events.
