Most Russian families own a dacha, a country house with a piece of land. This series was born when Igor Samolet discovered old photographs from the 1950s that used to belong to his dacha previous owners. By contextualising vernacular images in new photographical settings, the artist went back to the roots while keeping the history of those lands alive.

About the artist
Igor Samolet was born in Russia in 1984. He studied photography at the Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia. His photographic and documentary work was shown in a diversity of artistic institutions in Russia, such as the FotoDepartament gallery in Saint Petersburg. He also was part of the selection in several European festivals, such as the Tbilisi Photo Festival in Georgia, or the Voies Off Festival in Arles.
