KHACHATUROV Karén

Self-Destruction

Armenia

2022

Karén Khachaturov’s pop surrealistic works revolve around the digital world and its impact on people. The artist’s visual style highlights the sense of loneliness, alienation and loss of empirical experience that typify, in his view, the modern world. Most of his characters are faceless. These half-object, half-human individuals have been dominated by hyper-consumerism, with this pervasive objectifying view on everything, including themselves. Without adding any unnecessary dramatic clichés, Karén Khachaturov points to the workings of consumerism in our societies, stressing its traps and collateral damage. His images are light-hearted and witty, but they also have a deeper meaning if one is willing to scratch the surface.
