The forgotten

Allemagne

2013

For the “The forgotten” series, Miguel Hahn and Jan-Christoph Hartung went to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, to investigate about the middle class, often forgotten by the medias. The pictures of the Africa which is given publicity in the media show most of the time the same misery: war, hunger and poverty but according to the UN ninety percent of the African people live neither in a war zone nor in a critical zone. Moreover, the economic growths of some African countries are among the highest in the world. Every year, the economic growth in Kenya for instance is between five and six percent: it is three times higher than the economic growth in Germany. It’s to the middle class, that faces a crucial evolution, that Africa owes the dynamism of its development. In spite of this reality, there is very little information covering the everyday life of this social class.
