BLUE Audrey

This Hurts

2024

This series offers a meticulous exploration of intimacy, fragility and existentialism, while also bearing witness to the artist’s homosexuality. It is set in the small cities of Northern Ireland, where the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities is still very ambivalent and divided. Between staged and candid images, the artist charades herself as someone else, using herself or other subjects. She imagines, in often their extremes, the characteristics of the perfect, desirable ‘other’ at the crossroads of queer feminine rage and identity dissociation. Audrey Blue’s writing conjures up codes borrowed from adolescence, creating a tender atmosphere yet with an often bitter aftertaste.
