BLOMBERG Lotta

Fever Weaver

Finland

2022

Fever Weaver consists of video works and rugs in which the ancient Finnish art of the ryijy is combined with thermal imaging. Lotta Blomberg uses thermal cameras to reveal that which we know through senses other than sight. The resulting images are then manually transferred into physical reality as the artist ties a rug in which every knot represents a pixel. Since her childhood, she has experienced dissociation and has learned to deal with the symptoms through shifting her focus onto the movement of her breath. Meditation plays an important role in Lotta’s practice.  The rhythm of her grounding technique is echoed in the process of creating ryijys as well as in her videos, in which the line between live body and strange matter is blurred as mysterious lumps appear breathe.
