Guest gallery: The Library Project

2016

The Library Project is PhotoIreland’s volunteer led space holding a specialised Art bookshop, a gallery, and most importantly, the public resource library of photobooks that gives name to the space. PhotoIreland offers this growing resource of books as part of their emphasis on promoting a critical engagement with Photography in Ireland.
Having enjoyed an effervescent program of exhibitions, book launches, and events since 2013, the gallery is now focusing on offering a growing selection of photographic artworks to local audiences. Amongst other artists, we exhibited works by Eamonn Doyle, Barry W Hughes, Sanne Thunnissen, Jim Ricks, and Katrin Korfmann, and hosted other collections like that of the traveling ‘Zines Of The Zone’, the Fotobook Kassel Dummy Award, and the Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Award.

Presented for the first time in July 2011 during the PhotoIreland Festival, the collection has been on display at every edition of the festival. It finally found a permanent home at its current address in 2013, where it can be enjoyed for free. Presented in a comfortable mezzanine space, it receives regular visits by students, researchers, amateurs, and tourists alike.

PhotoIreland has been keen to offer wide access to the collection, reaching audiences in Irish cities like Cork and Limerick, and international destinations such as Gothenburg, Aarhus, and Melbourne, while cataloguing the collection online.

The Library Project welcomes everyone, both individuals and organisations, to contribute to and enjoy this unique public resource library.
