Approximation to the West

The project seeks to reveal instances of forgotten pasts through collection and
redissemination of historical information and the use of photography, drawing, installation and archiving tactics. In Approximation To The West, the artist’s address a series of events from the end of WWII, when Cossacks from Caucasus, allied with the III Reich, invaded the Carnia region in Northern Italy. The occupation lasted until April 1945. The occupiers were then traded by the Allied forces in exchange of hundreds of thousands of British prisoners of war held by the Soviets. The photographs are presented alongside documents and supporting material contextualizing the incident.

About the artist
THE COOL COUPLE, nicknamed TCC, is an artist duo composed of Niccolò Benetton and Simone Santilli, both working and living in Italy. TCC mixes the artists’ previous researches on contemporary photographic languages combined with their interest about “human habits.”
