Contemporary Swiss photography is deep rooted in history. Since the Second World War, Swiss photographers have played a major role, beyond the influence of the country. The ones who last are those who found their own language. The sense, the essential purpose of a series is what in the end makes the photographs stand out, raised by the author’s vision. The themes chosen by the artists venture in intermediate areas, not quite real, not quite imaginary. The focus on the surface, the membrane, the thin layer separating the tangible from the intangible, the inside from the outside, the familiar from the unknown, is everywhere.

The selected images are strong and attest to an undeniable savoir-faire. But their symbolic or political impact goes beyond the simple and momentary display, common in hushed exhibition rooms.

Photographs by Jean-Luc Cramatte, Laurence Bonvin, Matthieu Gafsou, Anne Golaz, Yann Gross, Vincent Jendly, Alban Kakulya et Yann Mingard, Christian Lutz, Augustin Rebetez, Jean Revillard, Jules Spinatsch, Luca Zanier.
