La Capsule is a place for photographer residency created in 2009, by Le Bourget and supported by Seine-Saint-Denis departmental board. Its mission is to support the production, spread and people’s awareness of. Since its creation, 16 artists have attended a residency.
Located in André Malraux cultural center, a place composed of an exhibition gallery, a cinema, and art and photo workshops, this place of artist residency has a 35m2 photo studio, a traditional black and white laboratory, a laboratory for film development and treatment of ancient photographic processes and a computer room for the treatment of digital images.
La Capsule offers an artistic and technical support to its artists to help them develop or finish their projects. Photographers are also welcomed for a duration from a few weeks to 18 months, during which they have all they need: development and printing labs for silver halide and digital photography, a photo studio and all the necessary equipment for the production of the photographs and their exhibition. There is also an exhibition area (a 120m2 gallery) and projects aiming to favor the meeting between the artists and people are organized.
La Capsule also tends to favor discussions between photographers and to develop a network around photography. More broadly, La Capsule also wants to develop a transmission network for the artists to disclose their work beyond Seine-Saint-Denis.
This place for artist residency if also a resource center for pinhole practice: reception of specialised artists, international exhibitions, pinhole courses.
La Capsule is only 50m far from RER station Le Bourget (15mn away from station Châtelet-Les Halles, via RER B)
