Platanos con platino

With her series Plátanos con platino, Elsa Leydier pays tribute to the Colombian region of Chocó. The area is mostly known for its poverty and violence, but it is also one of the richest in the field of mining and natural resources. Elsa Leydier wants to show an aspect that is often left aside: the attempt at overcoming the region’s bad reputation. She highlights the positive and optimistic elements and reveals the magic and luxuriance of the land, and its “bananas with platinum chips”, romanticised by Gabriel García Márquez in his 1954 travel writings.
