BISSIG Nathalie

Thunder

Switzerland

2026

« What did people think when they heard thunder? How did they explain to themselves the natural phenomena that were beyond their control? »

Through the series Thunder, Nathalie Bissig explores her own habitat, the valley of Uri where she spent her childhood in Switzerland. Archaic and mysterious, her works evoke the impact and violence of the nature that surrounds us and, with it, the fear of the unknown and the unpredictable. Drawing on rituals and mythological tales from mountainous regions, the artist’s work invites us to enter intermediate worlds, where both the sinister and the miraculous become possible.

About the artist

Born in 1981, Nathalie Bissig lives and works in central Switzerland, in the canton of Uri. A photographer and artist since 2004, she has travelled to Africa and Asia for photographic research. Her artistic work explores the landscape and the human figure, articulating the interdependent relationship between the two through various media: drawing, photography and object art.
