YONGA Charlotte

Lower Bottom

France

2012

She created this series of pictures as an artist in residence in Oakland / San Francisco, in the Prescott-Oakland Point neighborhood, also known as “Lower Bottom”. This is one of Oakland’s less wealthy part.
Nevertheless, due to location and recent improvements, this neighborhood becomes the new “place to be”. Charlotte Yonga’s quest asks the question of the part played by portrait inside the documentary image.
