MACHU Laureen

Reborn

Belgique

2013

The series she presents is a testimony about “reborning” or the art of creating a baby doll as a kit, an approach which is sometimes recommended as an emotional palliative. Perfect optical illusion, the object looks so much like a real baby it’s hard to tell apart. Often regarded as morbid or sick, Laureen Machu wanted to know through this “Reborn” series, who were really these mothers, these customers and these creators. Unusual stories where the doll fills a gap, often takes the place of the lost child. Mourning families, too much love, their everyday life turns into something strange. And everyone carries this weight. Intimate and complex visions. From the absence to the presence, is the gap filled?
