LAVERGNE Olivia

Jungles

France

Olivia imagines territory and makes it her own. Her way of seeing things transforms landscape which becomes a photographic painting. The choice of the light technique called the chiaroscuro, the vegetal forms and colors – ochre, green, blue – which are standardized in the painting of landscapes, strengthen the unusual aspect of the scenes. This series is about the exploration of a territory and its metamorphosis. Olivia Lavergne is interested in mysterious vegetation, opulent forest, and uses the jungle as a starting point.

About the artist

Olivia Lavergne was born in Paris in 1979. After studying literature, Olivia has turned to photography and from 2003 on, she has been working as an artist. She spent three years in Paris VIII college and went to Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs. There, she completed a Master degree in Photography, then a Master in Contemporary Art. In her pictures, dramatization has always flirted with reality, ever since her first works were exhibited in 2010 during the Voies off at the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie (Arles). Olivia traveled to Berlin, New-York City and Guyana. Her research on architecture, picture composition and light impact got her to explore in a more personal way a dense tropical forest, a luxurious vegetation.
