DE VILLE D’AVRAY Baptiste

Á l’horizon, les témoins...

France

2014

“Since 2001, Morocco is a permanent construction site. The Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts keep changing according to property developers. The whole country is turning into a touristic Eldorado.” This quote from the author illustrates his series On the horizon, the witnesses… dedicated to the transformation of the Moroccan territory and the silent testimony of its inhabitants. With a language inherited from photojournalism, Baptiste de Ville d’Avray describes with melancholy a place where “Everything has changed… Only the horizon remains the same.”

About the artist

Baptiste de Ville d’Avray, born in 1982, lives and works between France and the African continent. After studying multimedia, he took up photography in 2006 and he co-initiated in Mali the project called “Africa in visu”, a platform of exchange around the job of the photographer in Africa. As a self-taught and independent photographer, his photography is part of a research that is both esthetic and documentary, almost report-like, with a special attention given to the transformations of the world around us and of the men who live in it.
